Dr Sarah Pearce:
Sarah began her career studying Physics at one of the most prestigious universities in the world, Oxford. She later went on to hold a PhD in X-ray Astronomy from the University of Leicester.
Her extensive experience includes time as a science adviser in the UK Parliament, Project Manager at GridPP, the UK’s computing grid for particle physics, and finally, Sarah manages the most technically advanced radio telescope in the world (SKA).
In 2011 Sarah joined CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science as Deputy Chief and now holds the title of Deputy Director where she chairs the CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science Executive. Sarah has particular responsibility for the Square Kilometre Array project (SKA).
The Square Kilometre Array, or SKA, is a global next-generation radio telescope project involving institutions from over 20 countries. The SKA will be the largest and most capable radio telescope ever constructed. During its 50+ year lifetime, it will expand our understanding of the universe and drive technological development worldwide. Australia and southern Africa will each host different SKA components.
